Nanotechnology in Tissue Engineering

It is part of nanotechnology which helps to replace the damaged tissue by using suitable nanomaterial based scaffolds and growing factors. Organ transplants and artificial implants are successfully treated using tissue engineering. A suspension of gold coated Nano shells activated by an infrared laser, used to weld arteries during surgery.

Nanofibers are light weight with small diameters, controllable pore structures and high surface to volume ratio, making for ideal use in tissue engineering. At present, there are three techniques for the synthesis of nanofibers: electro spinning, self-assembly and phase separation. Of these, electro spinning is the most studied technique and provides most promising results in terms of tissue engineering.
